The Exact YouTube Strategy I’d Use in 2026!

Transcript

[00:00] When I first started my YouTube channel,
[00:01] I was making every mistake possible. I
[00:04] posted random videos. I was constantly
[00:06] changing topics. And I thought that
[00:08] buying better gear and cameras would
[00:10] suddenly make my channel take off. But
[00:12] none of that was actually true. But now,
[00:14] 10 years later, after making hundreds of
[00:16] videos, if I had to start a brand new
[00:18] channel this year, there is a two-phase
[00:19] strategy I would implement in my first
[00:22] year on YouTube to stay focused and
[00:24] actually see results. So, let’s start
[00:26] with phase one, which is the launch of
[00:28] your channel. This is roughly the first
[00:30] four weeks or the first month on the
[00:32] platform creating content. And here,
[00:34] most new creators get stuck because they
[00:36] actually just spend weeks thinking and
[00:38] strategizing and planning out their
[00:40] niche or researching the best gear and
[00:42] cameras and just waiting until they have
[00:44] this perfect plan in their minds of what
[00:46] they think their channel should look
[00:48] like. But the truth is, none of those
[00:49] things teach you how to succeed on
[00:51] YouTube. But what does teach you how to
[00:53] succeed is making and publishing videos.
[00:56] So, here are the four main things that
[00:57] you should focus on during your first
[00:58] month. And number one is simple. We kind
[01:00] of already said this. Just make and
[01:01] publish your first video. Don’t
[01:03] overthink your niche too much. Don’t
[01:04] stress too much about your channel
[01:06] direction because all of those things
[01:08] can be adjusted later. You just want to
[01:10] get your first video out. And also give
[01:12] yourself grace and know that your first
[01:14] video is probably not going to be your
[01:17] best video. And that’s okay. Honestly,
[01:18] my first video is so cringe and I
[01:20] archived that thing a long time ago, so
[01:22] nobody can see that thing. It’s super
[01:23] embarrassing, but it’s okay because it
[01:25] got me moving in the right direction.
[01:27] And also know that your fifth and 10th
[01:29] video are also probably going to be not
[01:31] the greatest. But the more you post, the
[01:33] more you’ll actually improve on each
[01:35] video and the more your confidence will
[01:36] grow. Now, the second tip during this
[01:38] launch phase is to choose strategic
[01:40] beginnerfriendly topics because once
[01:42] you’ve decided to start, the next
[01:44] logical question is which video should I
[01:46] actually focus on making? You could
[01:48] literally choose any kind of video you
[01:50] want, which feels a little bit
[01:52] overwhelming. So, here at Think Media,
[01:54] we like a couple of really
[01:55] beginnerfriendly proven formats that our
[01:58] students in our online program use time
[02:00] and time again to get views. So, the
[02:03] first one is what we call the ASQ method
[02:05] or answering specific questions. This is
[02:08] creating videos that answer commonly
[02:10] search for questions that people are
[02:12] always searching for on the platform. So
[02:14] instead of trying to chase a really huge
[02:16] competitive topic, you can look for
[02:19] narrower questions within your niche
[02:21] that people are constantly searching
[02:22] for. For us, for example, it could be
[02:24] how to start a YouTube channel in 2026.
[02:27] This is a great video idea. It’s very
[02:29] specific to our Think Media brand and is
[02:31] a constant search result that people are
[02:33] searching for if they want to start a
[02:35] YouTube channel. Maybe you’re in the
[02:36] real estate niche and you can make a
[02:37] video called how to purchase a house as
[02:40] a firsttime home buyer. That speaks
[02:42] directly to that pain point and the
[02:44] question that most first-time home
[02:45] buyers have. Or maybe you teach people
[02:47] how to cut their own hair with clippers.
[02:50] I mean, if that’s you, if you’re cutting
[02:51] your own hair with clippers, shouts out
[02:53] to you. And if you want to, there’s a
[02:54] video literally out there that teaches
[02:55] you how to cut your own hair. And
[02:57] another method we love is called the RSP
[02:59] method or reviewing specific products.
[03:02] So almost every niche, regardless of
[03:04] what your channel is about, has products
[03:07] or software or books and gear that
[03:10] people are researching prior to making a
[03:13] buying decision. They’re searching what
[03:14] are the best hair clippers for men’s or
[03:17] what are the best entrepreneurship books
[03:19] for college students. Reviewing these
[03:21] specific products are a great way to
[03:22] show up in search results. So the goal
[03:24] here is to not just post random videos
[03:26] that have no chance of getting seen. The
[03:28] goal is to create videos that have a
[03:30] realistic chance of getting discovered
[03:32] through search and suggested methods on
[03:34] the YouTube platform. And if you want
[03:36] help from our team on your YouTube
[03:37] channel strategy, you’ve got to check
[03:39] out our one video away event. It’s a
[03:42] 3-day live workshop for coaches,
[03:44] consultants, business owners, and
[03:45] serious creators who want to win on
[03:48] YouTube, and it’s only 1. So, we’ll
[10:16] link it in the description. But, Vid IQ
[10:18] will actually generate outlier scores on
[10:21] content right there as you’re navigating
[10:23] YouTube. And you can see where people
[10:25] are having breakout videos that are
[10:27] really high performance. And anytime you
[10:28] see that, that’s an indicator to you
[10:30] that there’s demand for that content to
[10:32] be produced. And even further inside of
[10:34] their dashboard, you can research
[10:36] outlier videos based on keyword topic or
[10:38] channel size or how recently videos were
[10:41] uploaded. So you can try to figure out,
[10:42] okay, what’s working right now in the
[10:44] space that I’m trying to compete in and
[10:46] trying to find outliers that you could
[10:48] then replicate. And that kind of leads
[10:50] right into our fourth tip, which is to
[10:51] leverage what we call trend surfing. So,
[10:54] some of the easiest views that you’ll
[10:56] ever get often relate to conversations
[10:58] people are already having on the
[11:00] platform, things that are already
[11:01] trending, news stories, brand new
[11:04] products, maybe popular formats or just
[11:06] emerging conversations on the platform
[11:08] that have a lot of buzz around them. And
[11:10] there’s a book I actually read recently
[11:12] from Gary Vaynerchuk. It’s called Day
[11:14] Trading Attention. And really, the book
[11:16] is just about how our entire world is at
[11:18] war with attention. We’re all competing
[11:20] with the same eyeballs. And so this book
[11:22] wrestles with how do you actually
[11:24] compete on the different platforms and
[11:25] try to break through the noise? Well, a
[11:27] great way is actually identifying trends
[11:29] and making your own commentary around
[11:32] them. Now remember, you don’t always
[11:33] have to try to reinvent the wheel here
[11:35] and find brand new markets and brand new
[11:37] ideas. A phrase I often like to say is
[11:39] copy and paste. So you don’t just have
[11:42] to like copy and paste other formats and
[11:44] ideas and titles right into your videos.
[11:47] That can feel a little bit inauthentic.
[11:49] But for you instead, maybe you could
[11:50] copy the format and like borrow a format
[11:53] or an idea or a news story that you saw
[11:56] is trending and then add your own
[11:58] creative taste or flavor commentary into
[12:01] that video so it feels fresh and
[12:03] authentic to you, but you don’t have to
[12:05] try to reinvent a brand new format or
[12:06] breaking new story. And the fifth tip
[12:08] during this growth phase is to just keep
[12:10] at it. Keep posting videos. So many
[12:12] creators we see quit after just a few
[12:14] uploads. They try this out for a month
[12:16] or two. They post five videos or 10
[12:18] videos and the views don’t match what
[12:20] maybe their expectations were and then
[12:22] they just burn out and they quit. But
[12:23] the truth is most channels they just
[12:25] simply don’t give it enough time. You
[12:27] need to compete for 6 months, 8 months,
[12:29] 12 months to start giving YouTube enough
[12:31] data so that they can pair your videos
[12:34] with the right set of eyeballs. YouTube
[12:36] is always trying to pair audiences with
[12:38] the right set of content. But sometimes
[12:40] it takes you actually being consistent
[12:42] in showing up over and over again to
[12:44] break through the algorithm. And here’s
[12:46] the good news with all of this. The good
[12:47] news in all of these tips and strategies
[12:49] and tactics is this. You are one video
[12:53] away from a massive breakthrough on your
[12:55] channel. Truly, that was my story. I
[12:57] made a reaction video to an NF music
[12:59] video and just gave my own commentary
[13:01] about how maybe they shot the video as a
[13:03] video production professional. And that
[13:05] one video sent me over the edge for the
[13:07] amount of watch time and subscribers
[13:09] that I needed to monetize my channel.
[13:11] And with all of this, remember that the
[13:13] goal within your first year on YouTube
[13:14] is not to have a perfect channel
[13:16] strategy that’s foolproof or to have
[13:19] viral growth within your first year.
[13:21] Because honestly, that usually does not
[13:23] happen. The real goal should be just
[13:25] post consistently. Learn to show up
[13:26] consistently. Learn how to read your
[13:28] channel data and your comment section so
[13:30] you know what videos you should be
[13:32] making in the future. And after the
[13:34] first 6 to 12 months, you’ll really
[13:35] start to understand a clearer direction
[13:37] for your channel and what kinds of
[13:39] videos will help you succeed on the
[13:41] YouTube platform. Now, if you want some
[13:42] help and direction with your first few
[13:44] videos, you can sign up for our one
[13:46] video away event happening really soon.
